A Hodson Bay Hotel wedding on the shores of Lough Ree
Katie and David celebrated their wedding at the Hodson Bay Hotel, just outside Athlone on the Roscommon shore of Lough Ree. With the lake right on the doorstep, big Irish skies and a couple who never stopped laughing, it was a day made for film.

Getting ready
The morning started with the details: sparkling Jimmy Choo heels, drop earrings, the rings in a blush velvet box, a single red rose and an illustrated invitation with a little portrait of Katie and David.
Then came one of my favourite moments of the day – Katie’s dad seeing her in her dress for the first time. A big smile, a lot of laughter, and exactly the kind of moment I love capturing on film.
The church ceremony
Katie and David were married in a bright, white-walled church, surrounded by family and friends. They lit their candles together at the altar, sealed it all with a dramatic dip kiss on the way back down the aisle, and walked out into a cloud of bubbles.
Portraits by Lough Ree
Afterwards we went down to the shore of Lough Ree. Tall reeds, wide open water and dramatic clouds made the perfect backdrop for relaxed portraits – heart-shaped sunglasses for the bridesmaids, champagne straight from the bottle, and a few quiet minutes for the two of them by the lake.
Back at Hodson Bay Hotel
Then it was back to the Hodson Bay Hotel to toast the day with a glass of bubbles in the sunshine before joining their guests for the celebration.
Later, the cake was cut and the celebrations carried on long into the evening – full of the same laughter and fun that had filled the whole day.

Make the most of the lake. The shore of Lough Ree is just minutes away – even 20–30 minutes there gives you a beautiful variety of portraits.
Embrace the Irish sky. Moody clouds over the water look incredible on film, so don’t worry if the day isn’t perfectly sunny.
Bring some props. Sunglasses, bubbles and a bottle of champagne made for some of the most fun moments of Katie and David’s day.
